Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (2023)

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (1)

Sometimes, when you are stuck in your spiritual growth, you may not know which way to turn. You may even start looking towards self-help books or spiritual growth books to help you with your problem. Although, nothing wrong with outside resources to help you in your walk, you should not rely on them as your only means towards spiritual growth. Sometimes, those books will not work and you will not grow closer to Christ. Instead, God gave you a book that already beats any other book. Bible verses on spiritual growth are important. This is because the Bible is completely inspired by Him. Every word was delicately crafted by Him. Here are my top 7 bible verses on Spiritual Growth that will hopefully inspire you to open your Bible.

1. Straining Toward the Goal

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (2)

No one is perfect. It doesn’t matter what your background is or how much knowledge you have acquired. You are an imperfect person serving a perfect God. He understands your weaknesses. And His strength is made perfect in your weakness. However, that doesn’t give you the freedom to keep on living as you did before Christ. No. Jesus calls you to leave our old life behind and to keep moving forward. To live in the freedom that He provides means to leave your old ways in the past. Yes, you will make mistakes along the way. But what matters is that you keep picking yourself up, you keep striving towards the goal of becoming more like Christ. Persevere in everything that you do for Christ.

Philippians 3:12-14 (ESV)

12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

2. Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (3)

There will be days when you can’t feel His presence. You may question yourself, asking: how could God understand my struggles if I am not even sure that he is nearby? In those moments, you may feel alone and unseen. However, this verse clearly states that He will never leave you. In fact, before Jesus ascended to heaven God sent an advocate that now lives inside of you, the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is living and active. He never leaves you nor forsakes you. If you feel like He is far, make some adjustments in your life. That thing that you don’t want to give up doing, leave it. You need to get up earlier to spend time with Him, otherwise, things get in the way? Do it. Figure out what is keeping you from experiencing the Holy Spirit. Because He is always there. He has promised never to leave nor forsake you.

John 14:15-19 (NIV)

15“If you love me, keep my commands. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

3. Scripture is Alive

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (4)

If you are unsure about the way to live your life, open the Bible. Scripture is fully inspired by God, himself. His words are living and active. His Word holds the power to break cycles, sin patterns, and restore what is broken.

However, you need to put in the effort to spend time in the word. A Bible that is never opened will be completely useless to you. Read it consistently, and let it transform your heart. It is a wonderful gift from God. This verse says that you will be equipped for anything good that God has for you. There is no need to feel ill-equipped for the things that God has planned for you. You have your guide right in front of you, in the form of His Word.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

4. Repent of Dead Works

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (5)

God wants you to leave (not abandon) the elementary principals of Christ. Infants that don’t look towards the master and obey what He desires, are just newborns that lack spiritual growth. Infants that do things out of a ritual or a chore will not advance toward maturity.

This is not what God wants. He wants all to grow spiritually. Jesus wants to know you on a personal level. He does not value your good works when your faith is dead. Spend time with Him and let your relationship blossom. You are not just a nobody in a sea of billions of believers. You are loved by your creator. Never mistake good works for a real relationship with Christ. Your good works should flow out of that relationship that you already have with Him.

Hebrews 6:1 (ESV)

6Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

5. Spend Time with Others

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (6)

Surround yourself with people that are on the same faith journey. Those people that are growing in their faith. Who are the people that you most want to imitate? Those people that lean on Christ for everything? Those that look to Him for approval rather than others? Those that aren’t perfect and don’t pretend to be but continue to grow in their walk with God? When you do find those people, do life with them. Be vulnerable and put yourself out there. You were not meant to do this life alone. “God sets the lonely in families,[a]
he leads out the prisoners with singing;” Psalm 68:6

Colossians 3:16

16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

6. God Will Finish His Good Work

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (7)

God has set you apart. You are His and He has already begun a good work inside of you. He promises to bring good works to completion through Jesus Christ. You may have experienced deserts before. Those are difficult times when you can’t feel God but don’t lose hope. You are being refined. When you don’t see spiritual growth taking place, remember God’s promises. God is renewing your strength and He is doing a good thing that you cannot see yet. Be encouraged and keep seeking Him.

Philippians 1: 6 ESV

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

7. You Will Be Satisfied

Bible verses that you need to know about for Spiritual Growth (8)

When was the last time that you felt hungry for Christ? Hungry for his presence? It says in this verse that those who are hungry will be filled. What will it take for you to get to that place where you hunger for him? God promises that you will be satisfied with Him. Nothing else in this world will satisfy as much as God does. We were created with a longing for Him that nothing else can satisfy. You can try to fill it with many other things, but that feeling will never disappear unless you intentionally seek Him. The more that you spend time with Jesus, the more hunger you will have for him. Stay hungry for Jesus.

Matthew 5:6 ESV

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

God wants you to grow spiritually. He even encourages you to do so through his word. If you enjoyed these Bible verses on spiritual growth, you may enjoy this article that gives you different ideas for your quiet times with God.
